Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III administered the oath of office to the new labor inspectors on September 5, 2019, at DOLE Labor Governance Learning Center (LGLC), Intramuros, Manila.
Secretary Bello personally congratulated and welcomed the new labor inspectors (LIs) prior to administering the ceremonial oath taking that were witnessed by DOLE senior officials. He also highlighted the importance of their role in the Department and enjoined them in ensuring strict implementation of the labor laws and standards.
“Itong papasukan ninyo ay isang napakahalagang trabaho sa Department of Labor and Employment kasi kayo ang titingin at maniniguro na ang labor laws and standards are complied by all the business establishments. Kaya bantayan ninyo yung mga opisina na hindi sumusunod sa patakaran,” he said.
The LIs that took oath in LGLC are from DOLE bureaus and regional office in the National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon (Region III), and Calabarzon (Region IV-A). DOLE Davao’s (Region XI) new LIs also took their oath of office before Bello through a video conference at LGLC.
The new LIs will augment the existing labor inspectors in the conduct of inspection of the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) and establishments employing foreign nationals. They are also tasked in the validation of the Alien Employment Permits (AEPs) issued in their area of assignment.
Labor Inspectors at DOLE-National Capital Region
Per DOLE secretary’s directive, an additional 500 labor inspectors are needed this year. From said national figure, 145 of those are to be assigned at DOLE-NCR—the regional office that shared the largest percentage of hired LIs among other DOLE regions. They will report under the direct supervision of the two Technical Services & Support Divisions (TSSDs) of DOLE-NCR: Employment Promotion & Workers Welfare (TSSD-EPWW) and Labor Relations and Labor Standards (TSSD-LRLS).
Regional Director Sarah Buena S. Mirasol were also present in support of the ceremony and accompanied Secretary Bello during the oath taking of new LIs at DOLE-NCR.
DOLE-NCR’s Internal Management Services Division (IMSD), as represented by Human Resources (HR) unit head Elias Roque and HR officer Annabel Espinosa, were also in attendance to brief the new LIs on pre-employment requirements and other important reminders.
The new LIs at DOLE-NCR will officially report for duty on September 12, 2019, and are required to undergo a training on that same day to orient them on DOLE programs and services and equip them on their duties and responsibilities.
