About 400 former working children benefitted from the DOLE Project Angel tree during a turn over ceremony of the Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) at Barangay Bagbag Covered Court – Quezon City on August 19, 2019.

The activity was in partnership with the Program Implementation Committee of the Quezon City local government unit (LGU) and the Federation of the Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII).

Senior Labor and Employment Officer and anti-child labor program focal Aurora E. Halcon said that the child laborers were identified through coordination of DOLE-NCR’s community facilitators with the barangay officials in said area.

Regional Director Sarah Buena S. Mirasol led the distribution of gifts, which were backpacks filled with school supplies and toiletries. In her message, Director Mirasol commended again the efforts of the program implementers and benefactors. This was the second time for the year 2019 that the region held a gift-giving activity through Project Angel Tree with FFCCCII and LGUs. The first one was recently concluded on August 14, 2019, in Manila (READ: DOLE Project Angel Tree grants wishes of 500 child laborers in Metro Manila).

In attendance were FFCCCII representatives: Mary Go Ng, Stanley Sy, and Peter Quintana; Quezon City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) representatives: Djohanna Delia G. Ravelo and Noemi Tresvalles; and DOLE-NCR Quezon City Field Office representatives: Senior Labor and Employment Officer Carmelita B. Jimena and the community facilitators.
